My absolute favorite Halloween-themed horror film is “Trick ‘r Treat.” It’s not all that scary, but it perfectly captures the spirit of Halloween and is an absolute treat to watch. In fact, I feel like it should play on a loop all day on Halloween, much like “A Christmas Story” does on December 25. “Trick ‘r Treat” tells four interwoven tales all taking place in a small town on All Hallows Eve. Along the way, we’re treated to a few rules for Halloween, like not smashing jack-o-lanterns and always checking your candy. One of the enforcers of these rules is Sam (at right), who serves as a sort of Halloween mascot. I won’t say anymore, because watching it with no foreknowledge is the best way to see this film.
