Vote for your favorite blog header! (Closed)

It is my pleasure to announce the winner of the blog header contest!

(drum roll… just do the noise in your head, okay?) And the winner is…

Andrew Le!

Andrew’s design perfectly fit the theme and was a delight to look at. As promised, Andrew will receive a $100 gift card to an online retailer of his choosing, which, for whatever reason, is Frederick’s of Hollywood. Actually, that’s not true. It’s something boring like Amazon or The Vitamin Shoppe or something. I wasn’t paying attention.

I’d like to once again thank all the designers who submitted work and helped me through the past year. I’m thinking of hosting another contest, so watch the blog for more details. For now, I leave you with these words from Andrew Le:

As I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I took a look at my lunch and realized there’s nothing left. Cause I’ve been eating and watching Netflix so long, it’s no wonder that my social life is gone.

Inspiring.

ORIGINAL POST BELOW

Finally, as promised a loooong time ago, here’s the poll where you can vote for which designer you think crafted the best header. The winner will receive a $100 gift card to the online retailer of their choosing. To refresh your memory of the designs that have appeared over the course of the last year, I’ve posted them below along with the name of their creator. And below that, the poll is there for your voting pleasure. I’m going to keep this up until June 1 June 5, so tell your friends and let’s give someone $100!

July 2010 & February 2011 – designed by Nick Adams.

August 2010 – designed by Brittany Forks.

September 2010 – designed by Brandon Washington.

October 2010 – designed by Andrew Le.

November 2010 – designed by Andy Snyder.

Day 365: (Not) The End

After yesterday’s back-pedaling, here we are. Day 365. To celebrate my year-long achievement (and my birthday), I had some delicious ice cream cake with my co-workers. I feel extremely fat. But it’s a good fat.

Some of you might be wondering what’s going to happen to this blog now that I’ve reached my goal. Will it end? Will it disappear? Will I ever get un-lost?

First off, the blog won’t be going anywhere. I won’t be posting daily anymore, but I will continue to post. I may take a few weeks off, but I plan to post new material at least two-three times a week. We’ll see how well I stick to that schedule. Some weeks could have more content, others less. I might pop back in and do another week-long series if inspiration strikes.

When I do post, plan to see more written pieces. I’ve got a great deal of movies that need to watched, so I might write up a few reviews and post on the blog from time to time.

I’m also going to start working on a book based on some of the material on this blog that I’ll self-publish. I’m pretty excited about it and I’ll share more as I start putting things together.

Before the month is over, I’ll be posting about my favorite pieces from the last year. Also, and this is a biggie, I’ll be putting up a poll to vote for your favorite blog header. This is something that should’ve already been done, but things came up and I dropped the ball. Working to correct this as soon as possible.

Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone who commented and visited. When I knew people were looking at my work and enjoying it, it helped me keep going.

Overall, posting something here everyday for the last year has taught me a lot about myself and what I’m capable of in a short period of time. I’m glad I did it, but I’ll probably never do it again.

Thanks again for your support. See you soon.

Day 364-and-a-half: Almost Within My Reach

That darn Day 365 does not want me to catch him.

I’m sure you’re wondering why yesterday’s post was marked Day 364 and why today’s is not marked Day 365… Well, I jumped the gun. Last year, way back on May 16, 2010, I was very anxious to get this blog thing going. I’d tweaked my blog layout (unchanged since then), posted a sample piece a week prior (just to see how it would look) and was really ready to get the show on the road… so I posted a day early. May 16, 2010 actually marked my first day of posts and ones that counted. I posted something the next day, on what was to be the official start date, but I didn’t number it, so technically, Day 2 didn’t come until May 18, and then things were back on track.

I suppose that, yes, this would be Day 365, but I said I would post from one birthday to the next and by George, I keep my word! So come back tomorrow to see the official final post for the first year of Josh is Lost. I’ll also be sharing some of my plans for the future of this blog…

Day 351: The Lone Bicycle

That bike’s gonna get stolen, for real. Put a basket and some tassels on that thing and you’ve got a sweet ride.

Well, it’s now May, which means this year-long project is about to come to a close. I’ll save my thoughts on the year when I’m finally done on May 17th, but let’s just say that I’m excited and relieved. More to come in about 15 days, including some new developments and (possibly) exciting news.

In other news, you’ll notice that I have a new blog header up there. It’s a companion piece to my June 2010 header. If you’d like to see how they compare, click here (NOTE: I do really look like that right now. UPDATE: No, I don’t.). Also, since I’m nearing the end, I’ll be putting together a poll to have the readers of this blog vote for which header design submitted over the last year was the best. The winner will receive a $100 gift card to any online outlet of their choosing. More information and the nominees can be viewed here (NOTE: I am allowed to win, so please vote for me. I could really use that $100 gift card).

Day 199: O Hai, December!

December is here. It’s hard to believe 2010 is almost finished. Another year behind us, another year closer to the coming Mayan apocalypse (that’s still supposed to happen in two years, right?). I really enjoy the holiday season so December’s always been a great month for me. For the most part, people usually seem in good spirits (unless they wait until Christmas Eve to get a Turbo-Man action figure), stores and homes are festively decorated, and there’s a sense of good will all around. Why can’t we have that all year, people!? Maybe not the lights, though; that’d kill your electric bill

Anyway, since today is December 1st, it’s time for a new blog header. I decided to tackle this month myself (also, I didn’t get any submissions). I’m pretty pleased with how this one turned out.

For all my Jewish fans out there, head back here tomorrow for a special Hanukkah post! All other religions and non-religions, stay away. Not really! Just some holiday humor, folks.

Day 169: Halloween Fire Sale

It’s the day after Halloween and that means everything must go! Prices are slashed across the board! Come in and enjoy our great sales!

Actually, ignore all that. I don’t actually own a store that sells things. I’m sorry for misleading you. What I do have, though, is a collection of behind-the-scenes photos from the Haunted Trail at work last night. You might remember I posted something about it a few weeks back. It was really dark, so I got exactly zero good shots walking through the actual trail, but there are quite a few decent shots of everyone getting ready and a preparing for everything. Enjoy below the jump.

Day 138: Happy October!

Well, it’s October 1, and that means Halloween is right around the corner (if the corner is made up of 30 more days). Because I really dig Halloween and all things spooktacular, this month’s blog posts will all involve something related to Halloween or horror movies or scary things or ducks. Well, maybe not ducks. Unless they’re evil ducks.

I’ve got some fun things planned for this month and hopefully I can pull them off. But don’t fear if you only show up here for the portraits I’ve been posting lately; they will continue. I consider those “monstrous” versions of real people anyway, and monsters are scary, so they’re staying in. And yes, I know I phoned it in today. I’m working on some other stuff for later on down the road, so hopefully you can forgive me. They can’t all be winners. But seriously, if you saw that thing sitting on a porch somewhere, you’d probably smash it before it ate your soul.

Also, because it’s the start of a new month, that means a new header image designed by one of you, the readers. This month we’ve got an amazingly clever entry from Andrew Le. Andrew’s probably one of the best graphic designers I know. Head over to his site and check out some of his stuff and then be jealous you didn’t come up with it first.
